Ekatra: Empowering Women Through Handmade Sustainability

Founded by Minakshi and Aishwarya Jhawar, Ekatra began as a way to express themselves creatively through handcrafted stationery and accessories. What started organically soon evolved into a larger purpose. The duo saw that freedom could begin with self-employment, and they committed to creating space for other women seeking the same. Over time, they built a small yet powerful team of 13 homemakers who are now confident and financially independent artisans.

Ekatra uses natural materials and follows a strict zero waste policy. All products are crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The brand sources 100 percent organic cotton from artisans in Sanganer. Any leftover cloth and paper are upcycled into smaller items and business cards. Even the tiniest paper shreds are turned into handmade journals and notepads. Cloth scraps that cannot be reused in-house are passed on to New Leaf for further upcycling.

At the heart of Ekatra is the belief that creativity and sustainability can lead to lasting change. Women from different backgrounds, often with limited education, come together at Ekatra to learn, grow, and create. Each one brings her own story and purpose, contributing to a collective mission of empowerment through design.

Why So Blue: Custom Clothing with a Conscious

Why So Blue, created by Jaya and Shweta, started as a small business in their living room. Jaya stitched the first collection herself while Shweta modeled the pieces. Their mission was clear from the start: make customizable and sustainable fashion accessible to everyone.

Their studio in Thane now houses a balanced team of men and women who carefully cut, stitch, detail, and pack each garment by hand. Every item is made to order, reducing waste and avoiding excess inventory. The brand sources soft, breathable cotton from across India and transforms leftover fabric scraps into accessories like scrunchies, chokers, and patchwork bags. This approach keeps their zero waste production promise intact. Why So Blue’s tagline, "Conscious, Cotton, Customizable," reflects their dedication to sustainable fashion, ethical employment, and personal expression. Each piece is made with care, ensuring comfort, style, and environmental responsibility.
