Honoring Women Makers Around the World: Celebrate Women’s History Month with Flourish Planet

March is Women’s History Month: a time to celebrate the contributions of women throughout history and across the globe. At Flourish Planet, we believe in honoring and uplifting women makers- talented artisans, entrepreneurs, and creators who are preserving traditions, innovating within their crafts, and building sustainable futures for themselves and their families.

Empowering Women Through Ethical Commerce

Flourish Planet is a space where women artisans can showcase their work on their own terms. We connect makers from diverse backgrounds—including those from minority and Indigenous communities—to consumers who value craftsmanship, ethical production, and sustainability. Our commitment to fair compensation and transparent business practices ensures that makers receive the full value of their labor while maintaining ownership over their work and stories. By reinvesting profits into artisan communities, we help sustain long-standing traditions and foster economic autonomy.
When women makers have direct access to fair wages, they gain the ability to invest in their communities, families, and creative enterprises. Economic empowerment supports access to healthcare, education, and resources that strengthen entire communities. Flourish Planet recognizes the power of artisan businesses to shape a more equitable future, where creativity and cultural heritage are valued and sustained.

Celebrating Women Makers

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate the inspiring makers and artisans who are creating meaningful change in their communities and the world. Here are some incredible women-led enterprises that are driving impact through the wonderful work that they are doing.

Starfish Project

Starfish Project is a non-profit with a social enterprise that cares for women and girls escaping human trafficking and exploitation. Established in 2006, the organization engages exploited women through outreach and invites them into their Holistic Care Program. Participants receive training and employment in their social enterprise jewelry business, providing them with the tools to rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.

WHE (Women, Handcrafted, Eco-friendly)

A design-driven ethical fashion brand, WHE was founded in 2020 to connect artisans to the end market while promoting sustainability. WHE works as a marketing, sales, and training mentor for women micro-enterprises, as well as employing a full-time women workforce. The brand crafts eco-friendly jewelry, home decor, and wearable accessories with love, mindfulness, and environmental consciousness. With one of the lowest female workforce participation rates globally, WHE actively addresses employment challenges by empowering women artisans. Their impact includes 180+ women empowered, 500+ women trained, 15+ craft forms revived, and over 4,000 kilos of waste upcycled.

Woloch

Woloch is a women- and family-owned company that distributes and promotes 100% handmade design products. Their mission is to sustain traditional craftsmanship while ensuring fair wages and ethical practices for their artisans.

An initiative by Happy Faces Foundation, One 'O' Eight Knots is a social enterprise empowering first-generation women artisans.
