Sonica Sarna is an ethical designer and educator who creates limited edition slow fashion pieces using sustainable, artisanal, and fair trade materials. Each piece is sewn at her women's center Projecthrive.

Purpose

Sonica Sarna designs ethical products for conscious consumers, creates transparent and ethical supply chains for global brands. She also develops educational programs for brands and consumers on sustainability, circularity, cultural preservation, and women’s empowerment in fashion. She has partnered with traditional artisans communities and ethical factories; and works with organic and sustainable materials as well as zero waste methodologies to help make fashion a force for good.

People

They work with a partner network of about 40 artisan communities spread across 14 states in India. They train artisan leaders in fashion industry best practices and help create international market linkages for them. Their overall impact extends to over 928 artisans to date and this constitutes around 522 female artisans. They advocate 50% or more female employment in partner artisan communities and run a training and sewing center to provide income opportunities for women from economically disadvantaged parts of New Delhi.

Planet

They work with low-impact dyes, natural and organic materials and traditional artisanal textile traditions. The design of products is aimed at being a near-zero waste design. They produce very limited runs of pieces and encourage mindful consumption, reuse, and repair among the community.
