They do so by reclaiming the residual with love and designing the process with care.
People
Something Sustainable works with a fair-trade certified factory in Kolkata. The raw organic fabrics are sourced from weavers themselves. The garments are naturally dyed by their natural dyers in Mumbai. They are a small-craft community that helps Something Sustainable give a new lease of life to food and flower waste. The natural dyes are created from the flower and food waste collected from local farmers’ markets and temples. The brand empowers these passionate dyers by nurturing the age-old techniques of natural dyeing. All the artisans and workers are paid fair wages.
Planet
Something Sustainable has spent months in research and mindfully chosen a local supply chain to keep its carbon footprint minimum. They use eco-conscious fabric organic cotton aka clean cotton. It uses 91% less water in production and is free of harmful chemicals and pesticides. They strictly source 100% GOTS-approved organic cotton. The garments are dyed with natural, organic, eco-friendly, and non-toxic elements. They either use pre-dyed yarns and fabrics (overstock) that are carefully inspected and sourced from the fair-trade certified factory or let the botanicals, food, and flower waste define their color palette. Their color palette is derived from coconut shells, tree bark, and pomegranate peels.
