Maadili Collective is a Fair Trade, social enterprise design company who creates partnerships with small-scale artisan communities where opportunities are limited or non-existent in order to promote economic freedom and stability. Formed in 2018, Maadili Collective works directly with Ugandan and Zambian artisans to co-create ethically produced and sustainably sourced baskets, home decor items and jewelry.
Purpose
Maadili Collective promotes inclusivity and empowerment by collaborating with craft communities, providing them with a platform to express their artistic talents and skills. At the heart of their ethos is a dedication to co-create innovative designs that not only enhance the artisans' skill levels but also forge genuine connections between them and their customers. They deeply value the preservation and celebration of the unique culture and craft of each artisan partner. They believe the true power of business lies in its potential to effect positive change and transformation in people's lives. They harness the momentum to uplift communities and empower individuals through economic opportunities, fostering sustainable growth and advancing potential.
People
Maadili Collective holds deep respect for cultural traditions and make efforts to preserve cultural and heritage crafts through innovative techniques and approaches. They believe in building value chains and support chains rather than navigating traditional supply chains. People are at the heart of the creation of each product and they work to support and lift up every person throughout the chain of hands. They encourage a collaborative design process by honoring the gifts of each maker and their traditional craft production.
Planet
Maadili Collective thoughtfully plans and designs each piece to have limited components and they do their best to source or produce all componentry within the country of origin or other sustainable options. They celebrate and honor the elemental sustainability of natural dyes, heritage materials and cultural crafts. They promise to use abundant, regionally sourced and natural materials. They challenge themselves to develop innovative designs using upcycled, recycled, reclaimed and regenerative materials.
