Headstrong by Hema Sharma was launched in the spring of 2019 as an expression of creativity that was shaped by a childhood spent in proximity to nature. There is a discernible thread of bohemia that runs through all their creations, the roots of which are in a nomadic spirit.
Purpose
The purpose of the brand is to provide contemporary, consciously made, long-lasting garments to the conscious consumer. They only use natural fabrics in the collection, try to minimize wastage, and are on a journey towards being more sustainable every day. Their aim is to support the artisan community, provide employment, and promote hand-based techniques in fashion.
People
Headstrong directly employs 2 artisans (master and tailor) and provides work to embroiderers, block printers, block makers, screen makers, fabric weavers, and fabric dyers. They consciously use labor-intensive practices like hand block printing. They believe in fair wages, meaningful and respectful association with all the people involved.
Planet
They use fabrics that are earth-friendly like linen, hemp, and handloom cotton. They make-to-order to reduce wastage and avoid the unnecessary stock. The packaging does not have any plastic and is biodegradable. The products are made in long-lasting fabrics in styles that are not trend-driven.
