Driven by artisanal crafts, EDS is an interior textile studio creating thoughtfully made designs which enlighten up your living areas by offering it an unique, authentic and characteristic touch. Created by Ekta Agarwal and Sanne Uivel.
Purpose
The tales of diverse Indian handlooms are fading. The craftsmanship is competing with latest equipment and machines. To counter this, EDS is providing better resources to local craftsmen/craftswomen, and is promoting the handicraft on an International level. We helped our artisans set up a loom in their village, giving economic opportunities to rural areas, and support sustainable livelihoods.
People
EDS represents the beauty of the contradictions of culture by using the unique Indian craftsmanship in combination with western design influences. Ikat weaving techniques rely on traditional craftsmanship and knowledge, which helps preserve cultural heritage and supports local communities. Our master weaver is one of the few who can create intricate designs. The popularity of ikat textiles encourages appreciation for diverse cultural traditions and promotes sustainable fashion choices.
Planet
Our ikat uses only natural fibers like cotton and silk, which are biodegradable and have a lower environmental impact compared to synthetic fibers. We use natural dyes or low-impact dyes, minimizing the use of harmful chemicals and reducing pollution of water sources. High-quality ikat textiles are often durable and long-lasting, promoting a slower fashion approach that reduces overall consumption and waste.
