EarthRoute is an artisanal slow fashion brand. The merging of Indian traditional weaving and hand-crafted techniques with classic styling and ergonomics is at the core of their design belief. They design mindful trans-seasonal wardrobe staples and they produce them in small batches in the studio in Kolkata.
Purpose
EarthRoute is ethical, transparent and is strongly committed to building a successful eco-fashion environment by following a fair and transparent supply chain mechanism. They believe in slow fashion and hand-craft the products. India and her rich crafts are what come alive in their works. They believe in creating authentic products that tell the story of the land and its people. They aspire to go back to the charkas and trigger a reverse migration of weavers and handicraft artisans back to their artistry from other means of livelihood where they had digressed to sustain themselves.
People
The goal is to preserve the rich heritage of traditional crafts. They try to blend technical product knowledge with artisanal skill and create a beautiful, distinct and ergonomic product range that can engage the maximum number of artisans in the process. With an eye for detailing and commitment towards ethical fashion, they educate the artisans, especially the women artisans in the bottom of the pyramid. They train the unskilled local women or semi-skilled artisans to bring them under the same symbiotic umbrella, which in the process lead to better business and bigger overall growth of artisans.
Planet
They love everything handmade. Their designs are produced in small batches, and their 'Lil’ Joys of Life' initiative is a way to repurpose and upcycle production surplus. This project ensures that even the smallest pieces of fabric waste are reused to create trims and accessories, thereby preventing them from contributing to landfills.
