People
They work with individual weavers and weaving communities from Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal to source the simplest form of khadi. This plain weave fabric has a simple production process and thus a low environmental impact when compared to other complicated handlooms. These communities either get into highly variable designs and lose productivity, or resort to selling extremely poor quality to compete with mill-produced fabric. Chamomile Home is focused on finding the right balance of craftsmanship and its production speed to ensure a sustainable business environment.
Planet
Organic Cotton has a low environmental impact, being a natural fiber. The handloom process is slow, but produces less waste and uses one-tenth of the water compared to the power loom process. As for the tailoring unit, we follow a “made-to-order” process and do not stock huge quantities. This helps reduce waste overall and manage the waste that they do produce in an eco-friendly manner. None of the fabric waste ends up in landfills. It goes into making cushion covers and the unusable is composted. Their packaging is compostable too.
